After completing the hospital project, I saw a poster carrying these words. Although I had spent four decades in public health, I realised that I had not fully understood the worldwide scale, complex causes, lifelong consequences, social stigma, or opportunities for risk reduction associated with congenital disorders and other adverse pregnancy outcomes.
That single poster changed the direction of my post-retirement life.
For the next three to four years, I studied and collected more than 100 publications, research papers, reports, presentations, and educational resources from WHO, CDC, UNICEF, UNFPA, researchers, and other respected public-health institutions.
